New US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, wearing a NY Yankees jersey and throwing from the right, tossed out the first ceremonial pitch before the Saturday game with the Boston Red Sox.
It might be an honor long overdue. Sotomayor is credited with issuing an injunction in 1995 that ended the baseball strike that year:
“… Sotomayor, a native of the Bronx, was briefly considered to throw out the first pitch at the Stadium 14 years ago. In 1995, Sotomayor, who was a federal district court judge in Manhattan at the time, issued a temporary injunction to end the baseball strike.”
