Women’s Team Canada Hockey Prepares, Competes Against Men

56165389PS002_Ice_Hockey_CaThere is concern the United States women are asserting their dominance over the Canadian national hockey team. In the last eight games between these international rivals, the US team has won six times.

With the approach of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February of 2010, the Canadian women are preparing by playing men’s teams:

” Cherie Piper scored the game winner with 4:13 left as the Canadian women’s hockey team beat the Calgary Flames triple-A midgets 3-2 Thursday.

Meghan Agosta added a pair of second-period goals for the Canadians, who will play four games in four days against Calgary midget triple-A teams made up of 16- to 18-year-old males. Agosta also assisted on Piper’s game winner.”

The expectations for the women’s hockey team are high. Anything but a gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics will be considered a disappointment, playing what many Canadians consider as their national sport. There is considerable pressure on this Canadian women’s team to excel.
