Caroline Wozniacki Denies Gambling Links

58498838One of the forbidden connections for any professional athlete is a link with gambling. It taints the athlete and discredits the integrity of the sport.

One of the young star of professional tennis finds herself embroiled in a possible gambling controversy. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is examining Caroline Wozniacki’s match at the Luxembourg Open:

“… Wozniacki retired hurt when leading Luxembourg’s Anne Kremer 7-5, 5-0 in the first round on Tuesday. She was carrying a leg injury and explained that, because she knew she could not fulfil her second-round tie, “chose the sporting option” and allowed Kremer to progress.

But the incident met with complaints and allegations on internet gambling websites. The WTA is said to be investigating, and the matter could be passed to tennis’s anti-corruption unit.”

Caroline Wozniacki should welcome any inquiry and have these allegations completely resolved. It would be a burden if such suspicions followed her and certainly not something that Caroline Wozniacki would want to have linked to her stellar tennis resume.
