WNBA Says “Good Bye” to Detroit

DetroitShockThere is confirmation that Detroit has lost its WNBA franchise. The new owner has confirmed the move to Tulsa:

“… “We’re thrilled to not only have a team, but one of the most successful teams in league history,” Bill Cameron said in the e-mail late Monday to the Tulsa World. “Under Coach Nolan Richardson, we’re eager to build upon this team’s success, and continue its winning tradition here in Tulsa.”

The Detroit Free Press reported yesterday that the players had been informed of the re-location to Tulsa. The population of Tulsa is under 400,000. It is a sad commentary on the Michigan economy that a much smaller population base can support a profession team better than Detroit.
