Volleyball at the University of Wisconsin

It seems that volleyball is very popular in Wisconsin. “The University of Wisconsin Field House ranks as the second-most attended volleyball venue in the nation, according to the December issue of Volleyball Magazine.

The magazine averaged attendance figures over the last five seasons and the Badgers rank No. 2 on the list of top-10 programs. Wisconsin trails only Hawai’i, which averages nearly 7,000 fans per match, on the list.”

Penn State is fifth in the rankings. It’s women’s volleyball team continues its winning streak at ninety two.

Penn State Tries for a Streak of Ninety

The Penn State women’s volleyball team has a chance to run its win streak to ninety games:

“… “We’re enjoying the ride and notoriety, but we know this won’t last forever,” says Penn State coach Russ Rose. “I understand there is some attention assigned to the streak, but we don’t talk about it.”

The Nittany Lions, who won NCAA titles in 2008 and ‘09, are 24-0 this season and ranked No. 1. They have lost only four sets this year and a total of 14 in their three-year run.”

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor Reunite and Win

Kerri Walsh is back to beach volleyball with her familiar playing partner, Misty May-Treanor. An injury in October 2008 for May-Treanor resulted in surgery for an Achilles’ tendon problem.

The Walsh/May-Treanor team is back together for the first time this season, at the last AVP competition, which is an international tournament.

Walsh and May-Treanor have advanced to the finals of the AVP Crocs Tour World Challenge. They will be playing April Ross and Jennifer Kessy in the finals.

It seems like Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor have re-established what made them such a successful beach volleyball team.

Misty May-Treanor Returns to the Beach

For Misty May-Treanor, competing on Dancing with the Stars was much more dangerous than her usual venue on the beach volleyball courts. During a rehearsal for the dancing competition, she ruptured her Achilles tendon, an injury that required surgery.

That injury separated the volleyball duo of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. Now the beach volleyball team will be back together again and competing:

“Two-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor will be reunited with teammate Kerri Walsh this month on the AVP tour.”

“The United States women’s national volleyball team are in danger of not advancing into the FIVB World Grand Prix finals after losing to Russia, 25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 25-17, Friday in Bangkok, Thailand, in the final preliminary round of the event. . .”
